Universal Service Obligation
In the Netherlands we deliver mail for many business customers. We are also responsible for the Universal Service Obligation (USO). This means we collect and deliver all private mail five days a week. We are also obliged to actually deliver 95 percent of this mail the next day – in 2015 we scored 96.4 percent. We’re also responsible for letterboxes and post offices throughout the country. We are proud to be able to perform this postal service for the Netherlands.
This is what we can do for you
We offer many products and services for both business customers and consumers. And we continue to look for new, innovative solutions. Here’s a selection of services from our portfolio.
Specially-sized packages that fit through mail boxes can be used by e-tailers for sending smaller products like DVDs, clothing or chocolate bars. This package can be processed through our mail network and is therefore cheaper than a parcel. Also, as it fits through a regular-sized mail box, customers don’t have to be at home to receive the package.
We not only excel in the world of physical post, but also in online mail. We know exactly how a company can reach their existing and potential customers. Via klantenvinden.nl, for example, we offer a complete direct marketing service: from advice to effect measurement, from creative design to database analysis by Cendris, from a Facebook campaign to a physical mailing.
Collection and delivery service
Flexible solutions make things easier for everyone. For instance, SMEs don’t have to bring their own mail and parcels to a PostNL location themselves; we can collect it at the end of the working day. We also offer the option of mail deliveries before 8.30 am.
We deliver mail to every address in the Netherlands, which is why door-to-door delivery, such as leaflets and catalogues, is a logical service for us. Our daughter company, Spotta, is specialised in this field of work.
With Gemakspost, we offer customers great ease. Companies can drop off all of their post items and parcels, for the Netherlands and international receivers, in one go. We take care of everything: processing, labelling and administration.
We are always looking for new ways of using our network and our people, and by doing so, exceed customers’ expectations. In 2015, we introduced Track & Check for addressed mail, as a pilot for millions of voting cards during the national elections. In 2016, one of our goals is to upgrade this service to Track & Trace, which means customers can track their mail items up to the actual delivery.
We’re also looking for ways to play a more significant part in society, together with municipalities and other companies. After all, with our deliverers, we are present in every street in the Netherlands, every day. One example is a pilot we started in Schiedam in 2015, with mail deliverers highlighting such things as graffiti and litter in public spaces, and make this known to the municipality.
