New stamps highlight Royal marriage between Willem-Alexander and Máxima

Amsterdam, 1 August 2014 - On 2 August 2014, PostNL will be celebrating the 12 1/2-year anniversary of the Royal couple by issuing the ‘12 1/2 years of Royal marriage’ stamps. These new stamps highlight King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima’s copper wedding anniversary. The Royal couple was married on 2 February 2002.

Dutch monarchs and other members of the Dutch Royal Family hold a prominent position on PostNL stamps. PostNL issues Royal stamps on special occasions such as wedding celebrations and anniversaries. PostNL has also congratulated the Royal Family through its stamps in the past, such as on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the marriage between Queen Juliana and Prince Bernard, as well as that of Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus.

Important occasions in the spotlight

Noteworthy events during the 12 1/2 years of the marriage are highlighted on the new stamps. PostNL chose these events because they reflect the role of the Royal Family - and King Willem-Alexander in particular: connecting, representing and encouraging. The stamps portray, for example, the King and Queen rooting for Dutch athletes and Willem-Alexander’s announcement to the press of his marriage proposal.


The ‘12 1/2 years of Royal marriage’ stamps can be purchased at all Bruna shops and via These stamps are marked ‘Nederland 1’ and are intended for domestic mail items up to 20g. The stamps are valid until further notice.
