PostNL presents Anton Pieck’s works on postage stamps

Hattem – PostNL has presented the Anton Pieck stamp sheet “Artisan & Artist” today. Rinus Rijnbergen of PostNL has handed over the first sheet to Anton Pieck’s granddaughter Els Spoor-van Lier at the Anton Pieck Museum in Hattem. The stamp sheet is one of a 25-part series being issued during the year.

This year marks 25 years since Anton Pieck’s passing and 100 years since his first calendar appeared. His works can now be admired in miniature on postage stamps. The romantic atmosphere he created in his illustrations won him millions of admirers but also aroused critique in the art world. He referred to himself as an artisan, expressing the value he attached to good technique.

The “Artisan & Artist” stamp sheet and free protective cover is available, while stocks last, from all PostNL post offices, Bruna bookshops, the Collect Club in Groningen and via www.postnl.nl/pieck. The complete series, made up of 25 parts, is by subscription only. The stamps are valid until further notice.
