This week, PostNL will deliver parcels to 1 in 10 households in Flanders

22 December 2014 – This is the first time that in the weeks leading up to the holidays, PostNL’s parcel delivery drivers in Belgium will deliver more than a quarter of a million parcels. That means parcels will be delivered to 1 in 10 households in Flanders, delivered by PostNL’s Belgian parcel delivery drivers. December shopping is done online more and more and our parcel delivery drivers and sorting centres are currently running at full capacity. They are working day and night for quick and correct delivery of these extra December period parcels to customers.

The first weeks of December showed an increase of almost 40% as compared to the same weeks last year. We expect 50% more parcels in the days to come. Compared to 2 years ago, these numbers constitute double PostNL’s delivery amounts in Belgium. “We are pleased that our parcel delivery drivers have more and more addresses to stop at, including more and more purchases from Belgian webshops,” says Sales Manager Steven Taeleman. The rapid increase in parcel amounts is partially due to the growth of e-commerce in Belgium – over 25% in 2013. PostNL growing more rapidly than the market has to do with the webshops which are popular in Flanders, such as, Body&Fit, Wijnvoordeel and Zooplus.

Extra staff is being hired to help sort parcels for the peak season. Delivery is done by 300 drivers, from 4 sorting centres across Flanders. This enables customers to place orders until late at night and still receive their parcels as early as the next day. There are 6 delivery days per week, and customers can always check their parcel statuses with Track & Trace at
