The most impressive lighthouses in the Netherlands commemorated in a special stamp series

The Hague – The 25 most impressive Dutch lighthouses will be showcased with a unique stamp series during the 2014 anniversary year. The Texel lighthouse will be celebrating its 150th birthday this year and the Marken lighthouse its 175th. The first stamp sheet featuring an image of 'Het Paard van Marken' (The Marken Horse) was presented earlier today by Ard Korporaal from PostNL to the current resident of the lighthouse, Liliane Spijker.

Quite a few lighthouses can be admired along the Dutch coastline. The oldest, the Brandaris on Terschelling, dates back to 1594 and will also be honoured with its own stamp sheet. The Westertoren, the lighthouse that adorned the 250 guilder bank note for many years, will also be featured on a stamp. In other words, this stamp series will be paying tribute to a number of icons along the Dutch coastline.

The Dutch Lighthouses stamp series consists of 25 stamp sheet sheets. The first stamps will feature the 'Paard van Marken'. This stamp sheet and free protective cover will be available (while supplies last) at PostNL post offices, Bruna and via The stamps are valid until further notice. The complete series of 25 Dutch lighthouses is only available through a subscription and is offered in a limited edition of 5,000 pieces.
