Energy surcharge for parcels
Fuel and energy costs fluctuate over time. To cover these variations, we apply an energy surcharge for the delivery of parcels.

We use the PostNL Energy Index. This index is based on the diesel pump price and average energy rates from Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The index range determines the surcharge. If the index is below 110, there’s no surcharge.
The surcharge applies to business parcels within the Netherlands and Europe. Here’s the list of products and codes:
- 15000 Parcels Netherlands
- 15002 Parcels to Business Reply Number
- 16002 EU Parcels (EPS)
- 16003 Benelux Parcels
- 16004 Parcel returns Europe(ERS)
- 16009 International returns
We add the surcharge 2 months after the month it applies to. For example: the October index applies to parcels you send in December. CBS publishes price data with a month’s delay, so we need that time to calculate the surcharge.
Parcels outside the EU
Parcels to non-EU countries also have a surcharge. These costs cover air transport and are charged per kilo. The amount depends on the destination.

What about the yearly NEA price adjustments?
Fuel costs are no longer included in the annual NEA price adjustments. They’re now part of the PostNL Energy Index. So you won’t pay twice.
What are we doing to keep costs down?
We keep investing in sustainable solutions like solar panels, renewable fuels and electric vehicles. Our goal: zero-emission delivery in the last mile in the Benelux by 2030. It’s too early to say what this means for future prices.
