PostNL making even clearer its sustainability objectives and outcomes

In the weeks and months ahead, PostNL will make even clearer its objectives and outcomes on sustainability, endeavouring to better inform consumers and customers about the sustainability choices PostNL is making. As part of this drive, PostNL will be updating its sustainability claims, which also fit in with new European legislation that will come into force by 2026 at the latest.

Consumers and customers better informed on sustainability choices

Our society is setting the sustainability bar ever higher, and consumers and business customers want to be well informed – a great trend that PostNL is looking to position itself at the vanguard of in its own sector. Suzanne Debrichy, Strategic ESG Lead at PostNL, explains: “As the largest postal and parcel company in the Benelux area, we’re very aware of the difference we can make by way of our climate ambitions. Through our network of locations, vehicles and people we show up in every street, every day and can make an impact on how things develop. And so we take our responsibility in everything we do, including in our communications about sustainability. We do the best that we can to this end and are proud of our approach.”

Clarifying sustainability claims

The updates will be implemented gradually. PostNL wants to share with the public what it does in terms of sustainability, and to clarify its ambitions. We’ll stop using general slogans such as “duurzaam bezorgd” (“delivered sustainably”) and will be giving our cars and vans a makeover going forward. At the same time, we’ll substantiate our sustainability claims on our website and in the PostNL app. We’ll also be sharing useful sustainability tips. PostNL is moving to clarify its communications on sustainability after discussing the matter with the Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) in the Netherlands.

Our approach to reduce emissions

PostNL contributes to society by paying attention to people, planet and community in a variety of ways; for instance, 31 PostNL locations boast a BREEAM sustainability certificate, 96% of letterbox parcels and letters are delivered emission-free from the final sorting centre to people’s homes, and parcels are increasingly delivered by electric vehicles.
